Whoa! You may say.  You haven’t even gone on the race yet, why are you bringing up after the race?  I have been questioned so many times about, “What are you going to do after the race?  Will you go back to your job?”

Just to make it clear, I’m quitting my job in December (haven’t picked a date yet).  This is going to be an extremely humbling experience because I feel like I have had job security my whole life.  I first started helping my dad with his Landscaping business the summer of 5th grade until his passing.  Then I was blessed by a job at Saylor’s Market, a hometown grocery store.  The owner was a softball coach of mine and he had been trying to recruit me since 9th grade.  So, when I needed a job, it was an easy “yes”.  I worked summer and winter breaks through college.  Senior year of college I worked in the study abroad office and as a student worker for my Sociology professor.  I also started an internship at Hope Springs Farm in August 2012.  During my 2nd semester it turned into a PRN, 2 day a week, job–which lead into a full time position in July of 2013.

And, well….the rest is history.  I’ve been working there since and have climbed through the ranks from staff, to lead staff, program specialist, and now my current position: program director.  Although this place has been my home since 2012 when I first started my internship, I cannot guarantee anything.  I have no idea where my heart will be when I return.  However, I can say that my heart will forever be with the facet of growers who have come to the farm-whether I seek a job there again or move on.  I have learned so much from them and have seen them grow in life (which is HUGE).  They have taught me so many times to be thankful for what I have and what true happiness is.  They have forever left an imprint in my heart that will never be removed.

“We give thanks to You, O God, we give thanks! For Your wondrous works declare that Your name is near.” Psalm 75:1

  1. You have a huge heart and wherever it ends up when you return after the mission, it will be fuller than ever and you will shine!

  2. You are both too kind. It’s definitely going to be a change and I know God will continue to work…and I’m excited to see where it may lead!
