My flight to Uganda was yesterday, and I sat on my bed as I watched the time pass.  If you’ve seen my facebook page, you know that I chose not go to Uganda at this time.  It was a decision that wasn’t easy and happened so quickly.

I got a message from Kristen over the weekend that because of COVID and the lockdown in Uganda, God’s Children Ministry would not be operating at their fullest due to the new guidelines from the government.  Schools are shut down.  You can’t move from county to county.  Everyone is fearful of each other (hmmm starting to sound a little bit like Rwanda last year). The organization is trying to split up the kids into different homes until the lockdown is lifted.

July 18th the president will address Uganda again and revaluate how they are handling the situation.  So, until then, I’ll be patiently waiting for an update.

In the meantime, in the past few days I have been frantically trying to figure out what I’m doing.  My 90 days of my Kenya VISA were expiring TODAY (Wednesday).  So I needed to either leave the country or get an extension.

Monday I worked on paperwork for the extension.  By 8pm everything was filled out and submitted online…  Tuesday I called for hours at the immigration office trying to get a hold of someone to push the process through.  Several times they took my passport number and said they would look into it and I could call back.  Finally, on one of the attempts, the lady said “let me go into the system right now.”  Praise God.  I had asked for 3 months and she said she could only approve 2, which is actually what I was seeking.  So, I’m now approved to be here until August 15th.

I’ll be heading back to my “base” in Kitale to do ministry from there this weekend.  I’ve been in Nairobi doing some online work for the ministry while waiting for my flight.  I’ll give an update on that soon!

So, through all of this, I know God’s plan is good.  And I’ll trust him.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.  “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”  Isaiah 55:8-9

  1. Trusting in His timing and submitting to His plan. You have been faithful, though at times frustrated, in leaning into that truth. May He reveal to you the reason for the ‘change in plans’ as you continue to serve Him!
    Blessings and prayers for you!

  2. There is a mission that God want you to complete in Kenya and you cannot left before it’s completion. God grace be with you Kelly as you continue to be in Kenya.

  3. God is truly our guide. At times we all stumble at not knowing what is ahead. Thank you Kelly for reminding us all who is in control. Praise God How awesome he is!!!!

  4. This is so good as that bike ride would not have happened. God isn’t finished with you (or me) yet! If He indeed directs our steps, He will carry us through the missed steps. It will all happen, of course, and I am thrilled you are moving with Him while you are waiting. Love and blessings to you, Kelly! —Chris
