Each week our host family has invited us over to their house for a feast and fun!
Week 1:
They have been serving us Romanian food, which we love since we’ve been cooking for ourselves. On our first day there, we had mici, ribs, homemade french fries, and lots of fun. We played Apples to Apples (image addition), had worship, played ping pong (I mean we do this ALLLLL the time, why not here?). We can’t forget the waffles served for dessert with your choice of topping: homemade strawberry jam, pineapple jam, butter, or syrup.
Week 2:
Our second time there we had sarmale. The night before Cami came and taught us how to prepare them. We cooked up rice, diced and cooked onions and then mixed them together. Next, we mixed that with some ground meat and a bit of tomato paste/sauce. Fermented cabbage was peeled layer by layer and rinsed. When both were ready, we put the meat mixture on the cabbage leaves and rolled it up into a nice little baby burrito. To cook these bad boys, we then boiled them (over a fire!). This is traditionally served with polenta (they called it cornbread…more like grits), so of course, this was provided as well. What a beautiful spread! And, of course we played ping pong (had a tournament this time!!), had waffles again, and enjoyed time with our Romanian family. 🙂
Week 3:
We went over again and had Mici again. We had to go out with a bang! This was truly a family oriented day. We had a ping pong tournament again and also played Rummikub and Ticket to Ride! I was in heaven! Two of my favorite games! We then gave gifts to the family, had cake and waffles, and just hung out til 11pm. It’s been a true blessing!
The night before we had the family and some other couples from the church over for worship. We also had communion and washed feet. It was such a beautiful night filled with the Holy Spirit!
Thank you Cristi, Cami, Florina, Bianca, Dennis, and Marcus for loving us so well!!!
