Don’t Fret!  I’m still on the race!  I’m talking about my home in Ecuador!

Fabi (Fob-e) and Mabe (Ma-bay) have been hosting teams since around 2011.  When we first arrived in Ecuador, Fabi greeted us at the bus station and helped teams get tickets to their next destination.  The two teams that were staying with them, my team (Valor) and Papoulo Fogo, plus a guys team that had to catch a bus later that night walked up towards the house.  On the way there, Mabe was waiting with the truck!  We put our big packs in the truck (whew!  That 47lb bag was getting heavy) and walked the rest of the way to the house.  We were then given rules of the house (leave the shoes at the door, no food in the living room, this is a place to meet God, etc) and made it to bed around midnight.

Fabi and Mabe graciously serve us breakfast, lunch, and dinner Monday thru Friday.

During the weekend we fend for ourselves.  I have LOVED the fruit we have been served here because that was pretty rare last month.  Every now and then they will let us help with the meals if we ask, but they really do have servant hearts and prefer to make and serve it without help.  I was able to help Fabi one night in the kitchen—it was the night that he made the soup I requested! (We were told it’s a specialty here—you eat popcorn in it!)

The soup was pretty much done, but I helped make the garlic bread to go along with it.  It also gave me a chance to learn more about Fabi’s story and share about my life too.  Ministry isn’t always on the field…it’s about pouring into the hosts too!

We are given chores to do around the house—cleaning the showers and bathrooms, sweeping the floors, washing and drying dishes.  Mabe and Fabi are all about good stewardship.  We also strip our beds on Fridays and hang the blankets on the bushes to get some sunshine and air out.

When we miss our pets from home, we just go outside and pet one of the three dogs that live here too.  We’ve also been getting our kid fix living with a 2 and 4-year-old.  Mabe and Fabi don’t just host World and Gap Racers, they host all sorts of missionaries that come and go.

It’s been so nice to have the comforts of home: a bed to ourselves, parental figures, a house filled with the love of God, a house dedicated to prayer, and even hot showers! πŸ™‚ Oh, and I can’t wait til I get my jar of homemade peanut butter from Fabi!  yumm!
