Elaborate and vibrant graphics, music you can feel vibrating through your body, scandalous youtube music videos playing, the taps on the side of the vehicle…the ride of a manyanga (translated as “horns” in English) is an interesting ride.  The more eye catching and elaborate the theme, the better the competition against the other buses.  Definitely not my first choice of transport.

As I looked up, the music video playing was very inappropriate—dishonoring the bodies we were given.  As we were sitting there waiting for more people to load, I opened up my Bible App and a verse I ran across was: “You were bought with a price.  Therefore, honor God with your bodies.” 1 Corinthians 6:20

The song, “Be careful little eyes what you see” came running through my head.  If someone was struggling with pornography, these buses would be the perfect opportunity for someone to get their fix.

I started praying for the souls that ride these buses every day, which are also very attractive to the youth.  Cheap and loud music. Perfect combo.  The perfect plot of Satan—infiltrate the youth.  What we see and hear makes an impact in our life.  What goes in, must come out.  What you spend time entertaining, becomes what you desire…what you think, what you say, and what you do.

Think of it like a tea bag in water.  The water is clean, pure.  You put in the tea bag (sin: lust, anger, sexual edification, lies, gossip) and it taints the water.  There are no takebacks.  You can take the tea leaves out, but the water still has that taste.  It still has discolored the water.

The same is the same with us.  Except, we have a way to make that water pure again.  We have the blood of the lamb.  When you accept the Lord as your savior, you are saved.  When judgment comes, instead of seeing “tainted” all that will be seen is pure because you are family now.  You are a son/daughter of the most high.

As you go out today, remember what you see, read, and listen to has an impact.  Make the choice to choose light and life.  Be the sweet aroma that everyone smells and misses when you are gone because you have brought life.

“Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.  Deuteronomy 11:18

“I have the right to do anything,” you say–but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”–but not everything is constructive. 1 Corinthians 10:23

O be careful little eyes what you see
O be careful little eyes what you see
For the Father up above
Is looking down in love
So, be careful little eyes what you see

O be careful little ears what you hear
O be careful little ears what you hear
For the Father up above
Is looking down in love
So, be careful little ears what you hear

O be careful little tongue what you say
O be careful little tongue what you say
For the Father up above
Is looking down in love
So, be careful little tongue what you say

O be careful little hands what you do
O be careful little hands what you do
For the Father up above
Is looking down in love
So, be careful little hands what you do

O be careful little feet where you go
O be careful little feet where you go
For the Father up above
Is looking down in love
So, be careful little feet where you go

O be careful little heart whom you trust
O be careful little heart whom you trust
For the Father up above
Is looking down in love
So, be careful little heart whom you trust

O be careful little mind what you think
O be careful little mind what you think
For the Father up above
Is looking down in love
So, be careful little mind what you think
So, be careful little mind what you think

I head to Pokot on Saturday for a few days for ministry.  I’ll update when I return.  🙂

  1. Praying for you and those you mentioned that are daily exposed to this and the numbing that comes along with it. Blessings my sister!

  2. Wow, this sounds like a crazy experience, a real trap. Joining you in prayer this morning, Kelly! Looking forward to an update of the pokot ministry!

  3. This sounds a lot like the pop culture our youth in USA are inundated with. See it enough and it becomes the norm and they don’t even realize it’s wrong. That’s why strong Christian role models are needed

  4. I’ve been on them a few times, but try to avoid them when possible.
    Thanks Shelly!

  5. This is so true, Kelly, and to the point of what we all face. We must choose this day who we will serve. Thank you for being a light to this generation! Blessings and love to you!

  6. Yes, it’s that daily renewing of your mind and choosing to deny ourselves and take up our cross.

  7. “Except, we have a way to make that water pure again. We have the blood of the lamb. ” LOVE.
